Thanks Mark. It's also, selfishly, going to help me peel myself out of bed on those dark mid-winter mornings....

I'll patiently wait for your night class version instead. The only time I'm awake before 10 a.m. is to catch a flight! Saying that, I was so happy to find you here on Substack after reading (and loving) A Short Ride in the Jungle.

Jules, I hear you about 10 am. It's bloody hard to get up in winter! Thanks for your kind words about A Short Ride. I loved that journey, and still think of it often.

Hi Antonia, it's also hard to get up at 11 a.m.! I wonder if you've seen Blood Road (Red Bull TV)? I'm sure it will be a controversial watch for you after reading about your experience. The plot follows an American woman's journey on the Ho Chi Minh Trail visit the site where her father's remains were found---he was a US Air Force Pilot whose plane was shot down 40 years ago in Laos. It touches on the failed recovery and disposal of UXO--which you certainly educated me about. Thank you for that. Really, your memoir was such a rich resource and introduction to the aftermath of the war, the current story, hair washing highlights, the powers of Boxer gin and titanium nerves! Amazing. Here's a link to that film: https://www.redbull.com/ca-en/films/blood-road
