Kick off the New Year with ten morning writing sessions

Hello everyone,

Yesterday afternoon, whilst planting garlic in the first blink of sunshine we've had in weeks, I had an idea.

I started this newsletter to enable me to write more, but in doing so I'd love to encourage some of YOU to write more too. Writing is soul work, a way of connecting with our deepest fears and desires, a way of witnessing ourselves and the world. As E.B White said: ‘Writers do not merely reflect and interpret life, they inform and shape life.’

So, in the name of encouraging me, and hopefully some of you, to start the New Year with a strong writing habit, I invite you to join me for a series of half-hour morning writing sessions.

When will these be?

Weekday mornings from Monday 6th to Friday 17th January, between 8.30 and 9 a.m. For those who want it, there’ll be a extra one-hour session on Saturday 18th January to discuss what you’ve been working on, and how you’ve found the sessions.

How will it work?

The format is very simple. I’ll send a Zoom link to everyone who signs up, and for ten mornings we’ll meet online and write together for half an hour. I won’t be teaching you, we won’t be discussing what we’re writing, it’s just a case of showing up and getting some words on the page.

Writing is a solitary exercise, beset with procrastination and perfectionism. Writing with others (even online) is a simple but powerful exercise in accountability, in just getting some damn words down.

It doesn't matter if you want to do the morning pages, write your diary, work on an article, hone a book proposal or finally start that book. Just write!

Who can join?

Anyone who’s a paid subscriber. If you’d like to take part just reply to this email and let me know. I’ll then send the relevant Zoom links and information nearer the time.
